I know it's been a long, long time since you've heard anything from Lexicon Polaroid.

Honestly, the lack of printing is 100% a money issue, and it's been a damned rough year.

Just today I've come back to taking a different approach the printing of issue #2, and though LP may be forgotten by some, I still wanted to keep the artists and poets updated with what's going on. I'm going to be working on the zine over the next month or two to get it going again in a slightly smaller format, half of which will be online.

I want everyone to know that I didn't just snake a bunch of good art and poetry for no reason. Nothing has been printed anywhere, yet, so I'm not running around with your good works claiming them as my own. Everything is just sitting in a folder on my desktop. Soon I'll have the means to get this second issue going, and when it is, everyone will be notified!

The fragments of this zine will meet a printer yet!

Oh, wait, second issue?

Those of you who submitted poetry and art with positive confirmation are now wondering:

"Where the [expletive of choice] is my [art/poem] in the next issue of Lexicon Polaroid?"

And I don't blame you.

The truth is, I've taken all of your excellent art and poetry, and submitted it to other magazines under my own name.

No. Not really.

The truth is, the first issue of LP was printed for next to nothing, which was a nearly anomalous and beautiful happening in Xeroxland. Now, away from this amazing resource of free printing, the cost of the second issue has become the last great hurdle for the editors to battle. Yes, the economy even affects the arts.

This is not to say that we are done. We are far from done with this project. All of your art and poetry is waiting in the wings, ready to hop onto printed pages and into your hands. But it's just going to take a little more patience, and a lot more money.

It's coming, readers.

The Busy Season

Readers, it's been a busy few weeks. We've had a lot on our plates and we're still oiling the gears to keep the press running on issue #2. We've received almost all of the lovely art that will transform the lovely zine into a portfolio of wonderful imagery and text.

So keep patient! It's coming.

Finally, the poems are collected for issue #2, like amassed parking tickets in the glove box; but not as horrible. Not horrible at all actually. We have just about 20 poets who have made the cut, but we're still looking for artists!

A couple changes to our plans coming up: We won't be tabling at the Portland Zine Symposium on Sunday. But we will be there on Friday. So make sure to come out 2:30-7pm at Smith Memorial Hall at PSU if you're in town Friday July 24th! And go to the symposium on Saturday and Sunday too!

Poets! Artists! Summer is upon us! Time to set your easels aright, dust off your typewriters, fill your inkwells and open the world's eyes under the spotlight of the noonday sun!

In other words, send me your poetry! Send me your art! Issue #2 is scheduled to be released this Fall, circa October, so send away!

This is an open invitation to you! Yes you!

LEXICON polaroid is a burgeoning poetry & art journal seeking poems with concisely vast imagery from which to draw meaningful conclusions. We’re also looking for great artists to draw these meaningful conclusions.

We take poetry and hand it over to artists to interpret and draw, as they will. Sometimes the art goes hand in hand with the imagery in the poem; sometimes it’s an interpretive slap in the face. Want to be a part of this experiment in the subjectivity and mutability of language?

Portland Zine Symposium!

Well, our new home base is Portland. And what perfect timing! LP is going to have a small table set up at the 9th Annual Portland Zine Symposium, so if you're in the area make sure to come check us out, along with over 100 different local Portland zines!

When: July 24, 25, 26 (we'll have a table on Friday and Sunday, not Saturday, but you should go all 3 days)

Time to reap what we've sewn.

After months of waiting for art and reading more and more poetry Lexicon Polaroid Issue #1 is finally tangible! Let me tell you at least this: if ever you decide to sew the binding of your poetry journal, use thick needles and a good sewing machine. Many thanks to Jordan, Emily & Alex for helping me stitch and draw the limited edition covers. Issue #1 is available for purchase currently at Hibbleton and It's A Grind La Habra for just $2! What a steal! The zine will soon be available at stores in Portland and Chicago (more info on those locations in a future post). If you'd like me to send you a copy, email me and send me $2.50 (we'll figure that part out in the email).

The release party last night at the incredible Violet Hour last night was approximately amazing. The ghost of Raul Alvarez was with us, as his doppelganger brother, drumming for Audacity to start the night, followed by Light Music, a few readings of work featured in Hibbleton Independent, Dash Literary Journal, as well as LP. The glorious unveiling of these three magazines all ended with a tomwaitsian blues set by The Waltz. Listen to The Waltz.

All three of these great journals of literature & art are available for sale now! Make sure to buy them if you get a chance, as they are all well worth their prices. Nay, far more.

On the Eve of Publication

There is a certain charm that comes with the punctuality of artists. That will be my final statement on the matter. Now, with all our art in hand, we're almost ready to print this bad boy.

It's been a long process, in a way, but enjoyable nonetheless. The first issue of Lexicon Polaroid will be available May 20, 2009, for $1. We're going to be tagging along with the release party for Hibbleton Independent around that time. Keep checking their site for more info on that!

That's a steal, folks. Contact us if you'd like us to mail you 1 or several copies. If you'd like to pick it up in person, it will be available in May at It's A Grind in La Habra, Hibbleton in Fullerton, somewhere in Chicago, and later at Reading Frenzy in Portland. Keep your eyes peeled!

I'm excited to actually get this thing printed and into the hands of the many contributors, [future] followers and well wishers.

Lexicon Polaroid: a new poetry & art zine!

Now we have thrown a pebble into the sea of blogs, hoping to make a ripple in this oceanic internet.

Lexicon Polaroid is a new journal of poetry and art debuting late April 2009. We mix the image and the word, diction and depiction following no specific theme for this first issue, other than the collision of new poetry and new art.

For our debut issue, we've sent a selection of our featured poetry to a handful of artists to draw out their own interpretations, whether or not it agrees with the meaning behind those poets' words. Oftentimes, the poets and artists have never met, leaving only the raw verse for the artist to depend on. The art which follows is ours to enjoy.

We'll be having a couple opening receptions at local Orange County coffee houses & art galleries, so keep your ears open and check back for info!
